Meet the 2015-2016 Executive Board!

Hello and welcome, 2015-2016 Pearson Parents!

As a community co-operative nursery school, our Board of Directors plays an important role in the operation of Pearson. They represent the parents as well as the best interest of all students, and meet monthly to discuss school business. The minutes of these meetings are shared transparently on the Pearson parent section of the website for all parents/co-op members to review. Additionally, three general meetings held during the school year provide the membership families the opportunity to vote on issues and communicate directly with the board.

We’d like to introduce you to our Executive Board for the 2015-2016 school year. As current Pearson parents, board members will soon become familiar faces at drop off and in the classroom - so introduce yourselves! Please remember that all members of the board are volunteer parents in the school participating in these roles on a part-time basis.

Amy Radojevic, Chairperson
My name is Amy Radojevic and I am excited to be back again as the Chairperson for the 2015-2016 school year. On behalf of the Executive Board, I’d like to welcome you and your child to Pearson Community Co-operative Nursery School! I’m excited to have the opportunity to work behind-the-scenes to make this year at Pearson another rewarding one for all of us.

I learned of Pearson a few years ago when I was looking for a nursery school for my oldest son. I was new to early childhood education and didn’t know what to expect. I was completely blown away with the school, the creativity and the support the teachers provided to the children and parents. Last year I was back with my younger son, Ryan, in the 2AM program and my expectations were exceeded once again. Seeing Ryan come home with all of his new ideas, skills, lessons, artwork and more was very special. This time around, I’m looking forward to sharing another rewarding year with Ryan in the RTL program before he embarks on his kindergarten journey next year.

As part of a preschool co-op, we all play an instrumental role in making the lives of these little people so bright. If we all work together, we will see the next generation spread their wings in June 2016!

Lisa Watt-Baxter, First Vice
Hello, My name is Lisa Baxter and I am very excited to be joining the Pearson board as First Vice for the 2015-2016 school year. Both of my children have attended Pearson, and I was impressed from the first day I walked through the door! I remember thinking, wow - this school is really clean and organized! Then I met Fiona and I knew right away I was going to love this school. Fiona and the other teachers really have put together a wonderful, supportive program, and I can truly say that because of them my son excelled in junior kindergarten.

I always recommend Pearson to friends, family, and even people I have just met. I know how much it has helped my children develop their social skills, and with the knowledge they have gained in order to help them with the next stage of their lives! My youngest son will be attending the RTL program this year, I am so excited for him and looking forward to another great year!

Tanya Gowan, Second Vice
My name is Tanya Gowan and I am thrilled to be filling the position of 2nd vice for the 2015-2016 school year. My daughter will be returning for her second year at Pearson. I loved being a duty parent last year and helping with crafts, songs and snack! Pearson is such a wonderful community of parents, children and amazing teachers. It’s such a privilege to be returning. I look forward to another memorable year!

Jenna Staskovich, Treasurer
My name is Jenna Staskovich, and I’m excited to take on the position of Treasurer for the 2015-16 school year. I am currently a stay at home mom of 3, and we’re a returning family to Pearson. My oldest daughter attended a few years ago, and she made some wonderful friends and memories. This year, my youngest daughter will be attending in the 3AM class. She is very excited to be starting school like her big sisters. I am looking forward to seeing how she will grow this year in such a great program. I’m excited to see her gain some independence and make some new friendships. I’m looking forward meeting you, and sharing a great year at Pearson.

Erin Pepler, Assistant Secretary
My family is happy to be a part of Pearson Community Co-op Nursery School for the third consecutive year. Our daughter attended the 2am and RTL programs before starting JK, and now our son is joining Pearson in both morning programs (yes, all five days – trust me, this kid has a lot of energy). Having been a part of my daughter’s drop-off and pick-up routine for the past two years, my son already knows and loves the teaching staff (as well as the train table, the science area, and just about every other part of the classroom). He can’t wait to officially join the school!

We have been so pleased with our experience at Pearson, and are grateful for its contribution to our children’s development and self-confidence. I am glad to be a part of Pearson’s Executive Board for a second year. As the Assistant Secretary, I lead the Marketing and Publicity committees as they create ads and flyers, work on social media projects, host marketing events, and more. Here’s to a great year!

Ashley Currie, Recording Secretary
I am so excited to be a part of the Pearson Board this year! This is my third year at Pearson and my second child, Emma, will be attending the 3am class. My daughter is looking forward to starting this school year as she has seen how much fun her older brother had, and has always been welcomed into the classroom by the teachers who made her feel comfortable.

I heard about Pearson from a friend and went to the spring open house. I knew instantly that I wanted my children to go here. It was friendly, organized, and offered a wide variety of activities. However, it wasn’t until my son struggled with the new social expectations and being away from Mom that I realized how exceptional the teachers really were. They are patient, kind, accepting and were willing to come up with strategies to help my child reach his full potential. They made us feel comfortable and supported by communicating with us regularly, and making adjustments along the way. After a while, everything was running so smoothly - even at home. They are passionate about their jobs and making sure every child is getting the very best experience and preparation for JK possible. Now that my daughter is entering her first year, with her own personality and needs, I know they will make sure she enjoys every minute.

Lindsay Murray, Membership Secretary
Hi - I’m excited to be Membership Secretary for the second year in a row (our third year at Pearson)! I’m currently a stay at home mom to my two little girls and a baby boy. I had the privilege of working at Pearson for 8 years as a teacher, and now I get to experience the other side of things as a parent! I’m looking forward to lots of fun at Pearson and meeting all of the membership.

Caroline Mayhew, Member at Large
Hello! I am excited to be a part of the Pearson Board as Member at Large for the 2015-2016 year! I’m a stay-at-home mom of two boys and a freelance graphic designer on the side. When I first moved to Burlington a few years ago, I heard about Pearson from a friend who raved about it. I registered my eldest son right away. He attended in 2013-2014 and absolutely loved it, and so did I. We both made friends and enjoyed all of the great things this preschool has to offer. My youngest son, who was almost a year old at the time, always wanted to stay and join in the fun. This is HIS year, and I’m looking forward to the experience once again in the 2am class. I can’t wait to see his smile, hang up his art, hear him sing and laugh, watch him grow, and meet his new friends. Thank you Pearson for being such a wonderful place - I’m so happy I found you!

Annette Palalas, Fundraiser
Hello Pearson families! My name is Annette Palalas and I am on your 2015-2016 board as Fundraiser. My son Constantine is returning to Pearson to the RTL program. This is our third year at Pearson, as my middle son also attended the 2PM program in 2012-2013. Our family loves Pearson! The school has wonderful staff and programs that really allow a child to blossom.

I am blessed to be a mother of three children who keep me very busy with their schooling and activities. I have the best of both worlds as I am a stay at home mum by day, and I work part time as an adult educator teaching insurance courses some evenings.

This year, I will be organizing the silent auction and raffle to help generate funds to support the school. I would love to meet with fellow parents so we can make this event our best ever! Any support you can offer will be appreciated. Looking forward to a fabulous school year!
