2017/18 Pearson Executive Board

Nicole Stephen Chairperson

I’m Nicole Stephen and I’m delighted to be returning as the Chairperson for the 2017-2018 school year at Pearson. On behalf of the Executive Board, I’d like to welcome you and your family to Pearson Community Co-operative Nursery School.

After moving to Burlington nearly three years ago, I found out about Pearson through a Google search. Even online, the school seemed to be everything that I was looking for in a preschool for my son. I was hoping for a school that was rich with opportunities to explore learning wise, and also be tied in to the community. I also hoped for passionate and kind teachers and a stimulating classroom, indoor and out. Pearson exceeded my expectations for all of these things. Cael attended the RTL program and everything about the school exceeded my expectations. My son had such a wonderful experience in RTL, and through this I could tell how much the teachers worked to make it a really special place. My daughter attended the 3 AM class last year and she loved all the traditions at Pearson, and the wonderful teachers made her feel at home immediately. Pearson is a place where entire families feel at home, which is what I love most about it.

I’m so looking forward to working together with all the parents of this wonderful community co-op nursery school to make this another fantastic year at Pearson. Please feel free to email me or approach me with any questions or concerns that you have throughout the year.

Steph Moffatt-Hincks First Vice

My name is Steph Moffatt-Hincks and I am so excited to be joining the Executive Board as the First Vice for the 2017/2018 school year. I am also a Mother to 3 wild little children. This is our third year at Pearson. My Daughter (Evelyn) attended in 2016 and we knew right away that Pearson was perfect for our family. We so appreciated the teachers commitment to making the school great and saw how much Evelyn grew in their care. As soon as we could, we enrolled our son Nolan in the 3am class. He attended for 6 months last year and is continuing his Preschool education this year in the 3am class. I have a background in People Management and Brand Management, but made the choice to stay at home with my children about 2 years ago. Since then Pearson has become an integral part of both our routine and our children’s development. I am looking forward to another awesome year at Pearson!

Tanya Gowan Second Vice

My name is Tanya Gowan and I am thrilled to be returning as the 2nd vice for the 2017-2018 school year. This is the fourth year my family will be attending Pearson. My daughter graduated after two years, and now it’s my son’s second year. I truly enjoyed serving as 2nd vice the last two years and am thrilled to continue contributing to the community. Pearson is a wonderful group of parents, children and amazing teachers. It’s such a privilege to be returning. I look forward to another memorable year!

Victoria Roberts Treasurer

Hello! My name is Victoria Roberts, and I’m happy to join the board as Treasurer for the 2017-2018 school year. I am an active mom of three girls who are 5, 3, and 1 years old. We have been an active part of the preschool for the past four years. My oldest attended the both the 2 pm and RTL programs and my three year old attended 3 am last year and now is in RTL.

I have been a duty parent and loved to be a part of the classroom where you get to see where the ‘magic’ happens. The magic of how our incredible teachers take an active role with each child to get to know them, feed off of their excitement in what they are doing, promote good habits and independence, and inspire thinking and creativity. I can’t say enough about how much the staff and families make the school a great place to be and what a fantastic experience our family has had.

In my role as treasurer, I will be responsible to oversee the finances and the day to day cash management of the school. I am excited for another fun year and look forward to getting to know the new families that have joined our community.

Carrie Dyson Assistant Secretary

Hello! My name is Carrie Dyson and I am looking forward to being part of the Pearson Board of Directors. Currently I am a stay-at-home mom to two wonderful daughters. I learned about Pearson through my amazing mom friend who has had two children that absolutely loved the school and teachers. My youngest will be starting in September in the 3AM class. We are so excited!

As the Assistant Secretary I am responsible for the advertising and marketing that we do throughout the year; including a lot of the social media. I have a long history in communications (before I took the leap to stay home) and am really looking forward to highlighting our incredible school in our great community.

I am really looking forward to meeting and getting to know many of the families this year.

Russ Gowan Recording Secretary

I’m excited to be joining the Pearson 2017-18 Board as the Recording Secretary. We’re heading into our 4th consecutive year at Pearson, where our daughter enjoyed 2 years, followed by our son, heading into his 2nd in the Ready-to-Learn (RTL) Program. During this time, we’ve experienced all of the curriculum that Pearson has to offer, all of which has provided an exceptional experience for our kids. Pearson is blessed with a wonderful space and caring professionals who provide a balance of structure, education, creativity and fun! I’m extremely happy to be able give back to the school that has given so much, not only in the last 4 years for my family, but over the last 30+ years to the community. I look forward to contributing to the continuing success of the school, in both making this an awesome school year, as well as building on the foundation for the school years to come!

Liz Woloshin Membership Secretary & Bookkeeper

Hi! I’m Liz and I have had two older children at Pearson, and have always loved being part of the school! My youngest, Emily, was set to come to Pearson as well this year, but we ended up moving out of the area after finding our perfect house! I am still going to be fulfilling the role of membership secretary and am very happy to be helping out! Looking forward to a great year. :)

Paula Cadido-Ward Fundraiser

Hello! My name is Paula Ward, and I’m very excited to be returning to the Pearson board as Fundraiser for the 2017-2018 school year. I am currently a stay-at-home mom of two amazing kids. I learned of Pearson a few years ago when I was looking for a nursery school for my daughter; she was in the 3AM class. I couldn’t have been more impressed with the school, the program, the support the teachers provided to both the children and parents, and the amazing connections I made with the other parents. When it came time to register my son we didn’t even think twice we knew we wanted him to be a part of Pearson and experience all it has to offer. He attended the 3AM and RTE Classes last year and will be in the RTL and RTE classes this year.

As fundraiser, I am responsible for all our fundraising efforts throughout the year. I will be organizing the silent auction and raffle as well as a few smaller events to help generate funds to support this amazing school. It is such a privilege to be part of this school for the 3rd year and to be returning to the board for the 2nd year. I am looking forward to meeting all the different families, and appreciate any support you can offer in making this a fabulous year!

Ashley Currie Member-At-Large

I am so excited to be apart of the Pearson Board this year! This is my fourth year at Pearson and my daughter, Kendall, will be attending both the 3AM & 2AM class. She is looking forward to starting this school year as she has seen how much fun her older siblings have had, and has always been welcomed into the classroom by the teachers who made her feel comfortable.

I heard about Pearson from a friend and went to the spring open house where I instantly knew I wanted my children attend. It was friendly, organized, and offered a wide variety of activities. However it wasn’t until my son struggled with the new social expectations and being away from Mom, that I realized how exceptional the teachers really were. They are patient, kind, accepting and willing to come up with strategies that would help my child reach their full potential. They made us feel comfortable and supported by communicating with us regularly and making adjustments along the way. After awhile everything was running so smoothly even at home. They are passionate about their jobs and making sure every child is getting the very best experience and preparation for JK as possible. Now that my daughter is entering her first year, with her own personality and needs, I know they will make sure she enjoys every minute :)
