Meet The 2019/20 Executive Board

As one of the oldest Burlington Preschools, Pearson’s status as a co-op is something that we are very proud of. Our co-op identity is what makes Pearson a preschool that is recommended again and again and why we often have several generations of one family join us!

What is a co-op preschool?

As members of a co-op nursery school, parents have the opportunity to volunteer in the classroom and on field trips. All families are also assigned to a committee at the beginning of the school year. Committee responsibilities may include planning our end of year picnic, writing posts for this blog or making Playdoh for the classrooms.

Heading up each committee is a board member who oversees, directs and liaises with other team members. Board members are volunteers who meet once a month with the preschool director to make sure everything is running smoothly and on budget.

Meet Your 2019/20 Executive Board

In the first general meeting in September, you will have a chance to meet the board members and learn a little more about what they do. The members of the board are all parents with children at Pearson so expect to see us at drop-off and pick-up from time to time!

To say that Pearson has exceeded expectations is a great understatement. The wonderful teachers have truly made the experience so incredibly positive. The supportive, welcoming and educational environment has helped our little ones blossom and we’re so grateful for its offerings. It really is a fantastic community experience filled with many traditions that continue to be exciting year after year.

I’m looking forward to working together with all of the parents of this wonderful community co-op nursery school to make this another fantastic year at Pearson.

My name is Deaana Cerqueira and I am excited to be continuing my journey with the Executive Board at Pearson as Membership Secretary. This will be my 4th year with Pearson and 2nd year on the Board. Both of my children attended Pearson since 2016 and my youngest is now off to JK. I decided to stay on the Board at Pearson, even though my kids are off to school, because I have developed such a great relationship with all of the teachers and staff, but more importantly I love the sense of community, I love what Pearson stands for, and I love being a part of something so special. I am looking forward to be able to contribute to the success of Pearson this coming year.

We moved to Burlington in 2012 and both my husband and I work as Paramedics in the Region of Halton. We were married in 2015, and our oldest daughter Eilidh will be returning to Pearson this year for her second year. We started half way through the year last year and could not have been happier with the transition into the Pearson Family. Our younger daughter Jayme will surely be enrolled at Pearson when the time is right!

I am also a ‘volunteer parent’ at Pearson, and I’m looking forward to working together with all of the parents of this school to make the 2019/2020 year a year to remember.

Member at Large - Haley Barton

Hi! My name is Haley Barton and I am so excited have the opportunity to be on the board for the 2019/2020 school year! My son started at Pearson in the 2am class in January of the 2018/2019 school year - I was on maternity leave and was looking for something to keep him occupied during his sister’s morning nap. We all fell in love with the school immediately - the space, the teachers, the programming…all of it! This year my son will be in the RTL program - to say he is excited is an understatement. I will be returning to work in September after being home for 18 months, but knowing that my son will still be able to attend this awesome school makes my whole family so happy! I work out of town, so I am really looking forward to contributing to something directly in my community. Looking forward to seeing all of you around the school :).

Next month we will meet our fantastic Pearson teachers and learn some fun facts to share with your kids!
